Great sound, no bass October 18, 2008 I bought these for running. I tend to run to the beat, and the beat just isn't there. The mids and highs are great. I have adjusted all EQ settings, and still just about no bass. On a plane, I would think these would be great. Good sound isolation, not great. I just was sad to hear just about no bass. I have gone back to my Ipod stock headphones. Sound quality isn't as good, but at least I have bass.
Picky audiophile wins with ER6i October 18, 2008 I've had these headphones for over two years and have absolutely no regrets with the choice I made. The first thing I did though was cut off one of the three nubs off of the grey silicone because I didn't feel like the headphones were going in my ear all the way. The sound is fantastic. Granted, I don't listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop, so I don't much care for extra bass, but if I need more, the ipod equalizer helps out quite a bit.
Also, I bought these headphones before I bought the 1G iPhone over a year ago, the connector doesn't seem to have been designed thin enough to work with an Iphone (it works well enough though surprisingly), I would assume it has been updated to work better with one. Check with this...
Just be warned - keep your ears clean! You may get any earwax in the earpiece and then clog up the filters. If you plan on keeping these for a while and using them often I would recommend purchasing a spare set of rubber silicone earpads (ones with two, not three rings), and a few pairs of filters just in case they get clogged. Like a german car, when it works, it works GREAT, but beware it may need some TLC when using them.
Absolutely fits the bill! October 15, 2008 After reading the reviews and establishing a budget--which these fell below--I bought the most expensive headphones/earphones I've ever purchased. I'm very happy.
Generally, I listen to audiobooks. While at the gym and with their motivational workout music going it was hard to hear. I took to wearing hearing protection over the earphones that came with the iPod. Yep, I looked funny, but it worked. (It was also a good way to scream, "leave me alone" and be anti-social.)
I did the same thing while doing yard work. I never brought myself to doing it while riding in the neighborhood, though. While on the trail, it wasn't the sound that was the issue, but the phones falling off.
All in all, I needed a better solution. These were it. I'm exceedingly pleased.
While not the smartest thing, I do ride with these. One of the trails I ride I simply ride from my home so I have about 1 mile of neighborhood to ride through. The rest is in the woods and I've not yet met another rider. The other trail I have to drive there and it's heavily used. I'm cognizant of the dangers of not being able to hear other riders so my head is constantly on a swivel. I've not had the first issue with these phones falling off.
I'm not an audiophile so I can't testify about the quality of the sound, but I've listened to a good bit of stuff ranging from hiphop to classical to classic rock and back to pop. To me, the response is fantastic. I have an MP3 rip from vinyl of Black Sabbath's Iron Man. I can easily hear the vinyl hiss and the beat of satisfyingly deep. Heavy metal ballades are rich and full. In short, my ears get everything they are capable of hearing and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
As for feel, I don't have a problem with putting stuff in my ear. I'm a shooter and like in-ear earplugs. I also ride a motorcycle and for distances use earplugs to cut down on the sub-sonic booming inside my helmet. (No, I wouldn't dream of riding a motorcycle with these earphones, I'm not THAT stupid.) The ear piece that came with the earphones fit me well. Once in, they stay in. I have the normal slight discomfort right after insertion, but it goes away very soon.
Two upgrades I'd like to see in these is a red dot on the right bud for us folks who are "more experienced with life" so I don't have to put on my glasses to see which side is which (I've added my own), and a more robust way of getting these buds out of your ear. Yes, sometimes miniaturization can be taken too far.
IMHO, these are well worth the money.
ER6i stands up to abuse October 13, 2008 I have had these earphones for more than a year. Recently, I washed a load of clothes in the washing machine and the pocket of one of the articles unfortunately held my Zen mp3 player along with the earphones plugged in! I did not discover this until the cycle had completed through final rinse and spin, and I was removing the clothes to place in the dryer. Needless to say, the mp3 player was toast, but to my amazement, the ER6i earphones still work as well as new. I was looking for an excuse to get a black set to go with my new Zen, but alas, the white ones work too well to justify the expense.
Great!!! October 11, 2008 These are really great. I have small ears and the other headphones hurt my ears. These feel good-you don't even know they're in your ears and the sound is terrific.
