Amazon.com Product Description The Scosche passPORT USB charging adapter allows accessories that do not support USB charging to work with iPod and iPhone. Firewire-to-USB Charging Pass-Through If you have an older iPod interface in your car, battery backup system, or similar product, you might find that charging is not supported with your new iPod. The Scosche passPORT solves that problem with Firewire-to-USB charging capabilities, providing a 12V to 5V solution for iPod nano 4G, iPod touch 2G, and iPhone 3G. Using passPORT is simple: - Plug the dock connector into the female side of the passPORT.
- Plug the passPORT adapter into your iPod or iPhone.
- Select a song from your iPod or iPhone and begin enjoying your music while charging
Great for Vehicle iPod Accessories The passPORT is perfect for older car integration accessories that don't support charging for the iPhone 3G and iPod models released in September 2008 or later. The passPORT is compatible with: several aftermarket head-units as well as Acura, Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Hummer, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, Mercury, Mini Cooper, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Pontiac, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Saab, Saturn, Scion, Suzuki, Toyota, Volvo, and VW. (Not compatible with select Pioneer head-units that use the CD-iB100 or CD-i200 iPod to IP-Bus adapter.) Note: The passPORT is specifically designed to fix the charging error associated with several iPod and iPhone accessories. If the accessory you are intending to use does not initially support the audio or video functionality of the iPod or iPhone, the passPORT will not enable these features.

Works perfect with IPod Touch 3rd gen 32GB and Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD March 17, 2010 Kipp Mcgowan I was a little skeptical based on some of the review, but I can happily say it worked out for me! Hooked it up from the CDI200 Pioneer iPod cord to the iPod Touch and viola.....it charges the iPod and has ZERO issues with the AVH-P4000DVD interface, menus, and features. Can't say much more, not one single issue other than maybe the actual size of this adapter. Not too much of an issue for me as I have plenty of space in my Mustang center console. I am running the newest Apple firmware 3.1.3.
This cord was almost useless with out being able to charge the iPod, now it is perfect and I can leave it alone and not worry about it!
UPDATE 3/17/10: OK, found a flaw for me, but not a big deal to me, but buyer should be aware. When I play podcast videos on my Pioneer headunit, the picture has wavy line across the whole screen. I tested it with out this adapter and the picture is 100% clear. I dont really play video since I have DVD capabilities and charging is way more important to me than the video. Sound quality is not affected with either music or video. But it is definitely worth noting.
MUST Have! Shame on Apple!!!! March 8, 2010 M. Austin (Los Angeles, CA) To begin with. THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!! I was so upset that my iTouch 64GB was purposely designed by APPLE to NOT Charge by any of my old chargers, Ipod Dock, or my in car Ipod Kit. I was furious. THANK GOODNESS for this item!
Now the Downside (with a catch):
Sadly, My iPod car audio kit from Best Buy (back in 2007?) seems not 100% compatible with either this item or the Griffin Charge Converter Adapter (I BOUGHT BOTH thinking one would solve the problem). I think I own the USA-Spec PA15-HON3 or equivalent from Best Buy back in 2007/8 (can't remember). Both the Scosche and the Griffin work, charge and play great sound.... but sometimes the iTouch just stops! Usually it happens more often when the ITouch needs to charge. But all I have to do is push play again, and the USA-Spec HONDA kit kicks in within 15 to 30 sec. This usually just happens once an hour, but sometimes when the iTouch needs a big charge....or the way the stars are aligned...it can happen more often. I've gotten used to it cause having my iTouch charging AND playing music is more important. (SHAME ON APPLE)
The Scosche is also compatible with my Altec Lansing iM600 and fits it well (even the tall version of Scosche's adapter). I plan on buying the shorter one to leave on my iM600 permanently!
I now use the Griffin adapter and gave my Scosche to my friend who has a more modern kit for her 2008 Honda Civic. She doesn't have the same 'music quiting' problems I have with my USA-Spec HONDA car-kit so I'm thinking my car-kit just sucks for the new iTouch. But the sound is clean and undistorted with the Scosche and Griffin.
AGAIN. I WOULD BUY THIS anyway! It also works with my old charge adapters as well. SHAME ON APPLE!!!!!!
worth every penny March 4, 2010 thinkgreen (US) Purchased a new i-pod for car stereo that was only 1 year old, the direct plug would not charge it. With this, it charges so I no longer have to bring in by dead ipod into the house everynight to charge it. It is well worth the money.
Causes ringing noise from car speakers when used with 4th gen Nano March 4, 2010 Gerald Tully this product worked well for about a week. I got it because it was cheaper than the Alpine brand. I'm using it with a 4th gen nano hooked up to an Alpine CDA-9886 headunit. When i use this to charge my ipod through the headunit it causes distortion and a ringing sound through the speakers.
Works great for Scion xB and iPod Touch March 2, 2010 Lindsey Park (Austin) I purchased this charging adapter to use in my 2007 Scion xB when I realized that the charging feature would not work for the 3rd generation iPod touch I purchased. Prior to this, I had a 2nd generation Nano, and the charge worked great in my car. When I bought the iPod Touch, however, I would get an error message that "charging was not supported with this accessory."
This device is only intended to fix the charge issue with the newer iPods. For me, it works perfectly, and was definitely worth the money.
