Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Kensington SlimBlade Trackball Mouse works where other travel mice can't. The trackball gives you control even when there's no room to move a mouse, then switches to mouse mode with the push of a button. Bluetooth connectivity offers up to 30 feet of range and doesn't use up a USB port. Never worry about turning your mouse on or off because it goes into sleep mode when your notebook does

4 out of 5 stars Great mouse, but...   November 18, 2008
As a mouse, the SlimBlade Trackball works great. It matched to my laptop immediately, sensitivity is able to be adjusted to my liking.

As a trackball it has a lot to be desired. I find it is too sensitive to be precise. It is also hard to scroll down a page if you have it in trackball mode.

It is fairly simple to switch from Mouse to Trackball mode, but the light that tells what mode you are in does not exist.

For carrying around while I work I will use it as a mouse because I like not having the wires. But at home, when I am just using the computer for pleasure I will continue to use my wired Logitech Trackman Wheel which can't be beat...until they make it bluetooth!

4 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect Bluetooth Mouse   October 31, 2008

First, Amazon order processing and delivery was excellent. Received product (free shipping) under 5 days! The Kensington SlimBlade out performs the Apple Mighty Mouse with respect to tracking and cursor location. As advertised the SlimBlade allows choice of mouse, traditional mouse tracking or use of roller ball. After two years of use, I found the Apple mouse somewhat annoying, the grey button overtime and with periodic gentle cleaning, became uni-directional (useless). Also tracking and button control became slow/sluggish with apple mouse (even having adjusted mouse preferences). The SlimBlade to date has none of these problems. The SlimBlades larger trackball is far easier to navigate with than the Apples Mighty Mouse small grey button.

Pro: Ease of tracking, choice of traditional tracking or roller ball tracking, improved tracking precision and preference vs. Apple Mighty Mouse. Power saving sleep mode feature on SlimBlade that will power down when mouse not used (watching video's for instance) resulting in longer battery life. This feature is not available on Apple Mouse.

Con: At times I miss the side selector on the Apple Mighty Mouse (squeeze to activate) that I used for dashboard call up, but certainly not a major factor.

Buying Decision: I bought SlimBlade on Deal of the Day for $39.99 (free shipping) a good price considering that the buy new price is $100 and Amazon discount price is currently $58. No reservations or regrets on my purchase. I would solidly recommend SlimBlade purchase. Four stars given at this time as I have not had long time usage of this mouse.

Tip:
To get best performance from this or any product I would suggest simple basic care. In this case I use Flents (Mfg.) "Wipe 'N Clear" (pre-moistened lens cleaning tissue) to wipe down SlimBlade, keyboard and monitor. These tissues do not leave any residue and remove fingerprints and other foreign substances that can overtime subtly degrade performance of these items. As these tissues contain a small amount of Isopropyl alcohol, they may also help to reduce the spread of germs on these items that are frequently used by many people on a day-to-day basis.

2 out of 5 stars Easy to install, not terribly reliable...   October 30, 2008

The installation was easy and the mouse works fine when it is working. I found I have to fuss with the toggle to get the switch between trackball and mouse to work. Turning it "off" to save batteries is not a sure thing. So far I've had to replace the batteries twice and I've only used it three times. Of course, I may have gotten a "bad" one off the production line but it surely did not make a good impression.

3 out of 5 stars okay, but not what I wanted   October 28, 2008

I am a Mac user. I was looking for a trackball mouse that, unlike Apple's Mighty Mouse, could have its trackball cleaned. Unfortunately, this one can't have its trackball removed for cleaning either. That aside, I think I like the Mighty Mouse better anyway. My bluetooth Slim Blade isn't recognized nearly as quickly as the Mighty Mouse when the computer has been asleep. I do like the larger trackball and discreet buttons but the response is too much like a Windows mouse. Even after fiddling with the mouse and scroll speed controls in System Preferences I still can't really get the trackball part to feel as comfortable as the Mighty Mouse. It's as if the Slim Blade trackball is lower resolution than the Mighty Mouse trackball. Since the trackball on my Mighty Mouse is a lost cause I'll use the Slim Blade until the trackball on it fails too. By then I'll hope for a better 360 degree scrolling technology to come along. Maybe optical? I just don't want to go back to a scroll wheel. Sigh...

4 out of 5 stars No middle-click   October 15, 2008
This mouse is very near perfect. The only thing I really wish it had is a middle mouse button. I wasn't able to tell if the trackball would double as a button from the technical details, but decided to pick it up anyway. I'm a huge middle-button clicker (for tabbed browsing with Firefox) and do miss this feature very much, but beyond that, the mouse is perfect.
