Died after 14 months November 26, 2008 This drive died after 14 months of usage. Began with a clicking noise before it died so at least I had some warning of the impending failure to perform backups.
Alright!! October 27, 2008 This drive was very easy to put in the computer. My HP found it immediately, and it sort of installed by itself. It wasn't showing up but I didn't switch the jumper for it to be a slave drive :P. Once we did that, I had to install it with this program: http://support.wdc.com/download/dlg/dlgsetup11_win.zip Once I did that very easily and quickly, my new, big (for an older type of drive), and speedy drive was ready to go! I'm currently moving stuff from my 40GB to it, so I can boot, and overall run faster. 5 stars, other than the documentation! That, and other stuff for the drive, can be found online.
Mark August 4, 2008 Wish I had read these reviews before -- but here we go. The drive does not include any setup materials, instructions or software. That means if your computer is not functioning you will need to find another computer to download their software. When I called Western Digital the person I spoke to was not helpful and could care less. If you are dealing with a crashed computer, I would not recommend this product or this company.
Western Digital Hard drives are fast July 22, 2008 I have had good success with the several Western Digital hard drives purchased and installed in my computers. I recently purchased a Seagate drive, and while it may be dependable, I found that it scores lower than my Western Digital drives for access speed.
