Product Description
Eyewitness Travel Guides are the original illustrated travel guidebooks-and they're still the best. Since 1993, the Eyewitness brand has established itself as one of the industry leaders, with sales of more than 6.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. Featuring more than 70 worldwide destinations, new titles are being added to the best-selling Eyewitness Travel Guides series each year. In 2003, to mark the 10th anniversary of the publication of Eyewitness Travel Guides, DK is re-launching the entire series, fully updated, and with a brand-new look.

1 out of 5 stars Useless product   February 11, 2008
4 out of 4 found this review helpful

In Kindle product format it is virtually useless. Mostly Wikipedia descriptions, no prices, no hotels, one restaurant in Lisbon. No intercity mileages. Climatology useless. Maps are unreadable.
Zero detailed guide book information. Useful only for someone who has just found out there is a country called Portugal.

I thought it was "Mobile Travel Guide to Portugal", not a cut and paste of disjointed information called a "MobileReference". A bad purchase, and an awful travel guide. I want to return it.

5 out of 5 stars Portugal Resource Guide   October 1, 2007

This travel book was great when traveling throughout Portugal. Had lots of information on what to do and see. The pictures are great.

3 out of 5 stars Too many graphics   August 23, 2007

With too many pictures and graphics, and too little text, this guide wasn't much of a help when I visited the Algarve. For the Porto region it was better, although some more text would have been nice.

With history, culture, regions outlined in this book, this is the way I want to see a new country

1 out of 5 stars Pretty pictures, no details -- maybe good for riding a tour bus.   March 21, 2006

This book looks impressive, but when I tried to get down to details of actually traveling in Portugal, they just weren't there.

The maps are such high level they are worthless for actual navigation. There is no information on where to find the train stations, bus stations. The information about hotels and restaurants are laughable. In Oporto, the book says you can take river trips upstream, but gives no information about where they originate or where to find the boats.

I suppose this book might be useful if you just like to look at pictures, and your travels are all organized by a tour bus operator.

The old standby, Lonely Planet, is a much better choice.
