There's a reason this thing is so cheap... February 24, 2010 A. Walton (Austin, TX) The case is unusable. Don't make the same mistake I did. Don't say, "Oh, it got a lot of 4 star reviews, it must not be that bad. It's only 5 bucks too!" That's 5 bucks you can go buy beer with. Keep the 5 bucks.
How doth this case suck? Let me count the ways...
1. Pretty flimsy. The loose friction latch on the side not only fails to keep the case closed when dropped, it snags all the time when you're taking the phone in and out of your pocket.
2. The fit, or lack thereof. When the phone is in the case, the screen is about 1/4" below the edge of the case. That little circle that's cut out to hit the home button? Almost impossible to do. Adjusting volume and locking the phone, very hard to do because of the fit of the case. Take all the manual switches and buttons that Apple worked so hard on and make them 5x more frustrating to get to.
Please please please please listen to the crowd on this one. This isn't worth getting your hopes up about.
Apple iphone 1st Gen Aluminum Metal Case and Screen Protector Shield. (Not for iPhone 3G / 3GS) December 17, 2009 Marion White (Chicago, IL USA) Actually I do use it with my iPhone 3G. There may be a reason not to use it with 3G iPhones but I haven't figured it out. It works fairly well.
The case I received was also different from the one pictured. These really aren't problems and I think mine looks better.
On mine:
The hinge is on the opposite side.
The home button is improperly oval shaped.
The speaker for the phone is not raised and has two oval slits rather than the three pictured.
For around 5 dollars this was worth it. It has taken some fairly serious drops on asphalt and tile floors and my phone survived unscathed (besides any unknown internal problems).
Construction:
The outside is made of aluminum of fairly lowish grade. It can bend and the areas where my Home button is, is very bent inward.
The inside is coated with a neoprene-ish type cloth on the majority of the interior surface.
The top back panel does not line up flush with the curved back of the iPhone. This is not an issue but it is there.
The design leaves it open for headphone jacks, computer USB plug in, taking pictures with the camera, and it also comes with a detachable belt clip that screws into the back.
WARNING: I purchased another product for my iPod Nano years ago and on that model you push the ipod in straight on. With this case, SLIDE THE IPHONE IN THROUGH THE TOP SLOWLY WITH DOOR IN FRONT OPEN. If you feel any catches while inserting the iPhone, slowly remove it and try to line it up right again. I scratched the sides of my iPhone on the metal edges by doing this wrong and trying to push it past the front.
Overall it is a good product but I cant predict what you can expect. I got a different one from the picture and other reviews got a different one than I did. But for 5 dollars... what can you expect?
Very dissatisfied November 24, 2009 Ronnie Bowen (Midland Texas) This is one of the most ill fitting and useless products I have bought for my new i phone.
I was stupid enough to buy two of them thinking that I would have a form fitting protective cover for my
phone and my daughters. The only thing that it was protective with is the use of the phone. The top cover did not come close to fitting the phone without considerable 'tweaking'!
The two units that I received in the mail were NOT as pictured in the advertisement. The hinge was on the opposite side.
The top cover was about 1/4 inch above the phone and the holes did not match close enough to use them.
I double checked the name and product number several times not believing that I was sent what I ordered!
Save your money and don't order this product. I would even go as far as to say that if I had it to do over again, I would have never used Amazon.com for ordering. I have had an almost continuous supply of spam to my mail server, along with other stuff from other companies trying to sell me products of a similar nature.
If you value your money's worth for a product and cherish your privacy don't get involved or order from Amazon.com!
I have spent almost a month trying to give a review on this product, but it has been blocked from my browser until tonight.
Wow is this ever rubbish! October 29, 2009 Jeff Hoogmoed (New York) I've had several iPhone cases, some very good, some very bad. I keep buying cases that look good partly because I get bored.
I thought this one looked great, and it does, but thats the only thing that was great about it.
Firstly the case that I got was slightly bent so it would not close. After I fixed that I got my phone in it and I was unable to get to the selection button located on the bottom of the face, and I've got medium size fingers.
I went back to the superior crystal case that I have,,,
At least it was only a couple bucks and it came with a screen protector that I will use.
Save your $...you get what you pay for
Solid but clunky October 5, 2009 chopper This is a solid piece of gear, but the design makes accessing the buttons and touch screen difficult. Good for a building site where dropping the phone is an issue, but for anyone else it makes using the phone harder.
